Cakey

Cakey

My world has been pretty crazy since my last post! Many tests, birthdays, workouts, and adventures!

That cake up top is my dad’s and bro’s GF’s birthday cake from Sunday night. It’s just a yellow cake with chocolate “buttercream” (not a real buttercream) and candied walnuts. Scratch-style, yes.

Then photos of last night’s dinner that I made for everyone…chicken pillards stuffed with spinach and homemade sundried tomato red pepper pesto.

My FabulousFather took these photos for me…
The salad is just hericots verts, patty pan and zucchini squash, sunburst tomatoes, shaved romano, lemon juice, garlic infused olive oil, salt, and pepps. The toasties are really good sourdough spread with the same pesto from the chicken, covered with romano, and broiled for a couple of minutes until bubbly.
Next up for your viewing pleasure, coconut cupcakes…
Cupcakies.

So my certification test in Cali on Friday was one big adventure. I left early in the morn, flew to LAX. Had to catch a shuttle to Rancho Palos Verdes. The shuttle took 2.5 hours cause it went around and around the airport, and then I had to read the map to the mean driver who just kept telling me I should have taken a taxi. I wanted to tell him to JUSTBENICE! I kinda did…I said “You don’t have to get angry”. Then he chilled a little bit. Anyway, I got us there. I went in for my four hour test, I was starving but had a sicky tum (which is actually odd. I believe I am blaming the tum issue on “atkins bars” The have weird ingredients in them and I will no longer be eating them. Ever.). I believe I ended up eating celery, some cottage cheese, and a hunk of a bar. The test was fine. Challenging, yes, but I expected that.
The shuttle was supposed to pick me up at 6, and I had a fifteen minute window, so I HAD to be down there by 6:15. We ended our testing at five to six, and I was packing up my stuff when the owner of the Pilates studio told me the shuttle company had called and left a message five minutes before that they were downstairs waiting. So I booked it down there. No shuttle in sight. I asked some hooligans sitting outside the Bucks if they had seen one. “Red???” The kid asked. And then proceeded to tell me that it was there twenty minutes ago. TWENTY MINUTES! That’s a HALF HOUR EARLY! Boo.
So I went back upstairs and called the company. They confirmed that they driver left me behind, and offered the solution of “finding another mode of transportation”. Needless to say, I had no other mode of transportation. It was rushhour in LA on a Friday night, my flight home was at 8:30. I called a couple of taxi companies to see if any of them were close by RPV. One was. They said they’d pick me up in front of the bucks in 10-20 minutes. So I went down there to wait.
I will spare details, cause this is already getting pretty lengthy and I’m T.i.r.e.d. The end of the story is that the taxi never came, and a fabulous starbucks employee took me to the airport.
My faith in Humanity has been restored!
Okay so I ran a 15k on Saturday in honor of Meghann at http://www.graduatemeghann.wordpress.com and Caitlin at http://www.seebriderun.com. It was Meghann’s first, and that’s pretty awesome! Caitlin beat her time from last year by more than FOUR MINUTES! Nice work ladies! My stats were:
9.51 miles, 64 minutes, 54 seconds. Good run!
Yesterday I spun, went for a hike, worked, went to school, did pull ups and some shoulders.
Today I ran 8.37 “tempo”…61 minutes, lifted legs, and did a lot of reformer experimenting at work because I got a brand new reformer! WOOT! I also worked at work. Fancy that.
I’m beat, hope you are all doing well, I’m going to be catchin up on your blogs a bit tonight to unwind, and then more tomorrow during lectures!
I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S OCTOBER!

P.S. I could feel a puddle of blood in my running shoe today…these two photos illustrate why I felt that. Though I’m not exactly sure why the blood was there…what a mystery, eh?!

Balanced Body Reformer

Balanced Body Reformer

Christie over at Sportsnutritionliving.wordpress.com is curious: (in reference to pilates and reformer workouts)

“I know i have talked to you before about it.. but how many days a week do you need to practice to see the benefits of it… I am a runner and I tend to develop muscle easily so I want less bulk in my legs =(”

Bulk…something women seem to be very concerned with.  We actually do not carry enough testosterone in our bodies to become “bulky”.  The bulk that *most* women refer to, is this:

A woman begins lifting weights, and makes no changes to her diet/cardiovascular activity.  She gains muscle, but the fat that she carries stays put.  As such, her legs, stomach, arms, whatever actually appears larger.  In order to “de-bulk”, you must lose body fat.

Speaking strictly strength-gains, you can see results in two sessions a week.  The way I teach keeps your heartrate up, it’s not a losey goosey stretching hour.  You will sweat, you will breathe HARD, hell you may even crypuketurnbrightred.  Find a good, certified instructor.  Make sure they understand your goals, make sure you feel comfortable working with them.

My own training includes daily cardio of high intensity, 3-4 times a week of weights, and 2-3 times a week of Pilates (two reformer, one mat, or vice versa).

What else kids???  Keep them questions comin!

PS…I ran for 58 minutes today.  Now I am sitting in classes.  I am lifting and teaching at 5, when I get out of classes.  My run today sucked a bit because I lifted legs yesterday.  It was an “increaser”.  This is a flat run, you increase your speed gradually.  So my pace started at just over 8 minute miles, and ended at 7 minute miles.  Tough.  It’s a “dig deep” kinda run.  Glad I did it.  Glad it’s over!

Sunday, already?

Sorry for the lack of weekend posting!  I’ve just been running, working, teaching, lifting, cooking, cleaning, etc.

Noteworthy achievements:

  • My biceps are sore.  I lifted them yesterday.  They never ever get sore anymore.  They are sore.  YAY!
  • Ten miles friday, cross training 9.7 miles mountain climber yesterday, Twelve miles today.  Makin money for “THE HUMANRACE”…see nike.com
  • Made gorgeous salads with mama
SALAD!
  • Cleaned out the damn fridge…yes, we love condiments!

We are off to do a bit of shopping…YAY!  This girl loooooves shopping.

Long time, No post…

Good Evening Lovers and Friends! It’s been a while…
Bowl O Veg

Bowl O Veg

My apologies for the super lack of postage. After I taught Pilates last night (oh Heather, have you really given it a chance!?), I came home, had some food, and was ready to crash. Then I stayed up a little too long and my tiredness went away. As a result I really didn’t sleep, and I did some serious snacking…PB and vanilla whey, mixed up all creamy and nice. My belly hurt all day today and still feels kinda funny…that always happens when I eat too much too late.

Aaaanyway. Today has been superlong, and not just because I didn’t get any sleep. I was at school from 8:30 until 7. I did get a workout in, but we’ll discuss that in a bit.

The bowl o veg up top was part of tonights dinner. It was ALMOST too big to finish. I mustered up the gusto. This accompanied it:

Chicken Romaine Mexicana

Chicken Romaine Mexicana

That is a bowl of romaine with two kinds of salsa, reduced fat sour cream, and some chickie that I grilled and cut up. So yum. The veggies were: two different kinds of garden toms, garden squash, garden cuke, broccoli, cauli, baby bellas, yellow onion…and two seasoning shakers: southwest chipotle, and nacho cheeses popcorn sprinkles. Again, so yum.

Last night was similar: (is anyone watching the dem. nat’l convention??? more of the same???)

Cottage cheese and eggwhites with vanilla, cinnamon, and splenda. Big bowl o veg (SURPRISE!)

So that’s all I’ve got for you in the way of food…

My workout was a triathlon today. Not in the traditional sense…no. I biked, I ran, but there was no swimming (this girl’s got bad. ears.). Instead, there was rowing. I biked 57 miles, ran 8.17, and rowed 2. These were in a couple of different sessions. I was having random time to kill on campus, and working out helped me to not focus on how ick my belly and my head were feeling today. I also weighed the bag I was lugging around campus all day…eighteen pounds! Boo. Way too heavy. Needless to say, I am tuckered out, and SO excited that I don’t have to wake up to an alarm in the morning. No classes to take, no classes to teach! WOOOOOHOOOOOO.

Hope ya’ll are superstoked to be headin downhill in the week!

Night.

Dinner and Workouties.

I came home from an 8.5 miler to a delicious smell in the kitchy. BonMaman had made wholewheat panko breaded chickie. I cut it into small chunklets and put them in a big ol’ veggie salad with some sugar free bbq sauce.

I spun for two hours in the morning today. Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I ran 8.5 in the eve. Mile 8 was sprinting straights, recovering curves…then .5 mile was cooldown jog-pace. The whole 8.5 took 64 minutes.

It was the first day of classes, too.  Needless to say it’s been a loooong one.  I think I finally got my schedule figured out though.  There is a class called Wilderness Nutrition, I could use it as an elective for my Nutrition Minor, but I can’t get in!  I am bummed, I thought it sounded like a great class!

Headin out to Therapy

I am on my way out the door for a run.

I had allbran extra fiber with yogurt and cottage cheese before hand (and coffee, of course).

My boyfriend is packing to go to BURNINGMAN, he leaves in a few hours.  I will be honest, I am a little nervous for him to go.  Do you all know about burningman?

I will be back later with a big clean dinner recap, and a run recap.  I feel like running forever, but I kinda think my body might not be feelin what my head is…

Ryan's roomies pup...what a great pic!

Update while eating lunch. Yum.

After doing Pilates on the reformers with my bon maman for a little over an hour. I was really shaky all during our sesh. I think I had too much or too strong of coffee this morning. I don’t really think there is such a thing as too much coffee. :-D. Afterward, I ran around the hood and ended up at home. 9 miles in 64 minutes. Average pace: 7:11…LOVE THAT! What a FAB number. I really had no control over my legs today, they were just cruisin. Love and Hate that, as I am a control FReAKy.

Had a ton to drink when I got home, munched on romaine hearts and red bell pepper dipped in fat free sour cream/salsa/ranchy dip mixture. Lots of it. And ate a sugar free creamsicle. My brother was here visiting when I got home. I only see him once every couple of weeks, so I waited to make my real meal until after he left, as he wasn’t hungry to eat with me.

I made myself a bowl of veggies with shirataki noodles, sriracha, sugarfree bbq, and fat free ranch. Veg were: homegrown yellow squash, broccoli, spinach, field greens, and baby bella mushrooms. It was ohsotasty but my belly is now super full. I also had a homegrown tomato with bleu cheese salad dressing and a cup of lowfat cottage cheese. Nobody wants to see a photo of a bowl of cottage cheese, and the tomato came straight off the vine, into my drooling cakehole (or tomatohole, in this case).

One bowl…two shots. For your viewing pleasure, of course (claro que si!)

On to last night. The menu was different than the one that was online. BOOOO. I hate it when restaurants don’t update their sites. We sat outside, and it was a hot one folks. So I pretty much decided I wanted cold food. I’m not a sandwich lova, which left me with a couple of salad options. The one with the most veggies (julienned carrots, green and yellow squash, red onion, and red bell) was a steak salad. I wasn’t jivin on the red meat last night, so I asked for blackened chicken instead. It also came with a side of jasmine rice (weird, no?) so I asked for extra veggies instead of rice. The salad comes out on a SALADSIZEDPLATE. There were four strips each of squash and bell. No carrots. No onions. Definitely NO extra veggies in sight. It was on top of romaine, with nice blackened chicken on top. Chipotle ranch on the side, and a side of salsa that I requested. The dressing was great, the chicken was tender, but I ate THEWHOLEDAMN thing, and definitely left hungry. I asked our server about the extra veg, and he said they were on there. Then asked if I wanted the side of rice. HUH? Doomkoff.

I had some leftover salmon salad, and sugarfree jello mixed with vanilla carbmaster yogurt after we went to Ryan’s parents house for carrotcake and presents. My belly was finally happy.

****I AM ADDING YOU TO MY BLOGROLL, if you don’t want to be on there, just send me a quick message and I’ll remove ya promptly! Hope you are having super adventures this weekend!***
